Bring Your Own Chair

This course has been designed around both the chairman and clerk
of a local council. During the evening you will both gain a better
understanding of what is involved in the respective roles and how you can work
together to ensure your council is run efficiently.
This is the third of three courses
this year for the role of chairman. We are also offering ‘Role of the Chairman’
in April and ‘Practical Chairing Skills’ in May. Booking two or more courses at
the same time significantly reduces the cost, please see details below.
Who should attend
This course is for the parish
or town council chairman and clerk or for chairmen and their clerks who have
not attended training for some time.
covered will include the roles and responsibilities of both the chairman
and the clerk, how to deal with the agenda, members absence, correspondence and
meetings and the local government acts governing how the council is run. Any
recent changes to legislation will also be covered.
The session involves a number of different scenarios for you to
work through, covering situations you may encounter. There is also the
opportunity to discuss your issues and to ask questions.

Start time and duration
£45.00 for two delegates
(the chairman and the clerk) to include coffee/tea, copies of PowerPoint
slides, relevant hand outs and attendance certificate. This will contribute
towards the DAPTC Star Awards for Councillor Development 2017/18 certificate
for your council, provided the qualifying criteria is met.
There are significant cost
reductions if booking two or more chairman courses at the same time:

and ‘Role of the Chairman’ (total saving of £15)
£65 if booking this course
and ‘Practical Chairing Skills’ (total saving of £15)
£90 if booking this course,

Please book each individual
course at the same time to take advantage of this offer. If bookings are not
made on the same day, each course attended will be invoiced at the full cost of
the individual course.
By the end of the course the
chairman and clerk will have gained a better understand of the respective roles, be up to date with council procedures and changes to recent legislation and be working together to ensure your council is running efficiently.
How to book (please ensure
bookings are made via the clerk)
Booking is easy and safe.
Upon completing the booking form below, the clerk will receive an immediate
automated booking confirmation, along with the delegate (the email address must
be entered in the delegate address for joining instructions to be sent to).
Total of 16 places, being 8 chairman and 8 clerks (a booking for the
chairman and the clerk of the same council is one booking, even if made on
separate booking forms)
The delegate and clerk will
receive an emailed course confirmation from DAPTC, including directions to the
venue and other course details approximately one week before the course date.
If this is not received, please contact us as it may indicate we have not
received the booking.
Terms and conditions
Unless a cancellation is made
at least two working days prior to the date of the course, your council will
still be invoiced and the full course fee will still be available.
Your council will be
invoiced after the course; please do not forward payment in advance.
If booking more than one
chairman course at the same time to take advantage of the reduced cost, your
council will be invoiced after this course.
