Clerks & Officers in the Dorset Council Area

Registration is now closed for this important conference delivered by DAPTC in conjunction with the Dorset branch of the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC), delivering the first significant briefings on the May 2024 elections, and an opportunity to hear from the Elections Team on key changes and processes you will need to understand and be familiar with for councillors who are re-standing and for new candidates. In addition to this topic, we will have interesting and informative speakers relevant to Dorset, plus opportunities to engage with fellow clerks and officers. It will also be a chance to network with other colleagues from Dorset Council.

This Conference is suitable for all clerks and officers, regardless of experience and length of time in post.

£70 for one delegate

Clerks' Conference Resources

HM The Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Angus Campbell sent a video message for officers of parish and town councils across Dorset, thanking them for their dedicated hard work during the pandemic, the Queen's Jubilee and the recent commemoration of her life.

Roundtable discussions - the morning sessions focused on the working relationship between Dorset Council and parishes / towns. The outputs from these discussions can be found in the following document:

Session 1 and 2 Outputs

Matt Prosser CE Dorset Council

Matt Prosser, Chief Executive of Dorset Council kicked proceedings off with an opening address reflecting on the establishment of the unitary council and brought delegates right up to date with current issues. This was followed by a Q&A on some wide ranging topics.

Cllr. Laura Beddow (Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Customer Service) launched session 2 discussions. Delegates held two roundtable discussion about what parish and town councils can do to help working relationships with Dorset Council. Further focus was given to how to engage elected members, other community groups and ensure geographically and size-wise all parishes can get involved.

Clerks Conference

DAPTC with the help of clerks will be socialising a 'working together' document to start to gather wider views and inputs.

This will be done by individual councils, DAPTC Area Committees and DAPTC AGM in the coming weeks.

Guest Presenter - Find out more about Becky

Becky Walsh....and now for something completely different

We were pleased to welcome Becky Walsh to our event all the way from Weston Super Mare. Becky ran a session on 'personal resilience and self protection'. This is a webinar on offer through the Society of Local Council Clerks and she presented a short version for us.

This 'thought provoker' provider the ideal warm up for Jonathan Mair, Dorset Council's Monitoring Officer who closed the event.

DAPTC are talking to Becky about some dates for further sessions specifically aimed at help and support for Clerks which is often a lonely role as well as demanding. Watch out for more information.
