DAPTC Governance

DAPTC is a constituted membership organisation covering the whole of Dorset. The Executive Committee is responsible for the strategic direction and financial management whilst the Chief Executive and small team manage day to day operational matters. Executive Committee meetings are held every 6 weeks throughout the year alongside the AGM in November and Annual Executive Committee meeting in December.

DAPTC Executive Committee members and the Chief Executive represent parish and town councils in other meetings nationally, regionally and across Dorset.

Below the Executive Committee sits a Strategy Working Group which focuses on projects and initiatives in development for the benefit of members and our own operations. A staffing committee has responsibility for the wellbeing of colleagues at DAPTC and the recruitment of resources.

The Area Committee structure is geographically constructed to ensure member views are gathered from across the county.

Operating in a Pandemic

Like many other workplaces the team at DAPTC are working from home and have done for the majority of 2020 and we suspect the first half of 2021.

This has had a significant impact on training delivery resulting in a lot of work to shift regular training content online and to develop new e-learning solutions. The use of virtual meetings has prompted the need to help councils conduct business in new circumstances - a challenge that has been tackled full on and successfully by a number of our members and resourceful Clerks!

One upside of the pandemic has been our ability to squeeze in more Executive Committees to help facilitate some change and also for DAPTC to stage its first online AGM in November 2020. This was warmly received and over 80 individuals joined in to vote live online on some great motions as well as planned changes including the DAPTC Constitution.
