BCP Council Area to Undergo Community Governance Review

BCP Council Area to Undergo Community Governance Review

Communities wishing to establish a new parish or town council or where existing local councils wish to make possible changes the following information is really important.

Message from BCP Council:

Following feedback there will be a dedicated session for parish and town council clerks and councillors.

As you will be aware the Council agreed to conduct a Community Governance Review of the whole of the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area in accordance with Part 4, Chapter 3 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007.  A Community Governance Review offers the opportunity to review and put in place, or make changes to, community governance arrangements and structures at a parish level with the aim of bringing about improved and stronger community engagement, more cohesive communities, better local democracy and more effective and convenient delivery of local services.  Later in November, we will be launching a Community Governance Review Survey, along with an Engagement Paper and an annex of maps showing the existing parish boundaries and the polling districts for the whole area.   The first stage of the process is an invitation for initial submissions which will commence on 25 November 2024 and run through to 19 January 2025. This initial stage is open to any interested party to respond.

The engagement paper, survey and other information relating to the review will be available on our engagement page at haveyoursay.bcpcouncil.gov.uk from 25 November. We have produced an explanatory video with an overview of the Community Governance Review which can be viewed now.

The date of the Parish and Town Councillor briefing session is Thursday 21 November at 5.00pm in Druitt Hall, High Street, Christchurch BH23 1AJ. It is anticipated the session will last no more than 2 hours.

I appreciate that this date may not be suitable for all councillors, but we have been taking into account as far as practicably possible the feedback received. I would encourage your councillors to attend this session if possible as we can discuss specific issues relevant to the existing parished areas, however, if any councillor is unable to attend this session they may attend one of the public sessions listed below.
