Shaftesbury Town Council are delighted to announce that its Town Clerk, Brie Logan has been named a 'Clerk of the Year' finalist for the National Association of Local Councils' (NALC) Star Council Awards 2023.
Brie joined the Town Council in 2017 and what she has accomplished in those six years has been extraordinary. Her keen eye for possibilities and funding avenues has led to her realising numerous strategic priorities. Notably, she secured £500k for a state-of-the-art 3G football pitch, financed by a loan repaid through income generated by a new car park, an ingenious solution addressing town centre parking shortages while promoting accessible sports facilities for all.
Another of her standout achievements has been the transformation of St James’s Park play provision. Brie navigated funding uncertainties and managed public feedback with finesse. Her rapport with stakeholders ensured the project remained on budget, overcoming resistance from vocal doubters, which resulted in an acclaimed and unanimously approved play area that delighted even the community’s youngest members.
As someone who leads by example, her boundless enthusiasm and exceptional communication skills have united her team, councillors, stakeholders, residents and Dorset Council officers in a mission of excellence. Brie’s ambitions for Shaftesbury far surpass a typical small-town council’s objectives, igniting inspiration throughout the community.
The nomination was submitted by Shaftesbury Town Mayor, Virginia Edwyn-Jones, Deputy Mayor, Andy Hollingshead and Lead Councillor for several local projects, Piers Brown who commented, "Brie's transformative leadership at Shaftesbury Town Council has not only elevated the council’s performance, but it has also inspired a culture of community collaboration, innovation, and results-driven governance. Her exceptional achievements make her a beacon of excellence in local government leadership.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Brie and what she has achieved for Shaftesbury. We all have our fingers crossed for her next month." Her private sector background has enriched the council’s decision-making process, emphasising data-driven choices over perception-based ones. Notably, she swiftly pedestrianised the High Street during the COVID-19 pandemic, aligning stakeholders’ interests to create a permanent change supported by over 80% of businesses and the public.
From day one, Brie has prioritised community engagement, forging partnerships with local organisations, volunteers, and stakeholders. This collaborative approach has cemented the council’s reputation as an integral part of the community. Cllr Keith Stevens, NALC chair, commented on the announcement and said, "Congratulations to Brie Logan. Your outstanding achievements have placed you among the best in your field, and this recognition is well-deserved. Your hard work, dedication, and talent have shone through, and it's an honour to see you as a finalist for this prestigious award. Best of luck for the awards ceremony, and may your journey continue to be filled with success and inspiration. Your achievements serve as an inspiration to us all!"
