The Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant

At our 2023 AGM, DAPTC member agreed to promote the adoption of the Armed Forces Covenant amongst member parish and town councils across Dorset. Access this article to find out how you can do this.

Whilst many DAPTC members only employ one or two employees, by adopting the covenant hopefully they can increase awareness with other local employers in their community. Dorset has a significant number of serving personnel live within it's communities as well as many retirees. The first step is to contact Emily Kadoch if you wish to progress this further - details below.

The Armed Forces Covenant:

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

Its two principles are that, recognising the unique obligations of, and sacrifices made by, the Armed Forces:

  • Those who serve in the Armed Forces, whether Regular or Reserve, those who have served in the past, and their families, should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services.
  • Special consideration is appropriate in some cases, especially for those who have given most such as the injured and the bereaved.

By signing the Armed Forces Covenant, an organisation demonstrates its commitment to support the Armed Forces community, and this provides the signatory with the opportunity to be recognised by the Employer Recognition Scheme award.

The Employer Recognition Scheme Award

The scheme encompasses Bronze, Silver and Gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

If as an organisation you would be interested in finding out more, about partnering with Defence through signing the Armed Forces Covenant, then please do reach out to your local Defence point of contact,  Emily Kadoch who is the Employer Engagement Director at Wessex Reserve Forces & Cadets Association.
