Bournemouth Town Council is seeking a highly organised and motivated Council Services Officer to join our small and friendly team.

This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of local government, supporting the Town Clerk & Responsible Financial Officer in delivering services that make a real difference to residents, community groups, councillors and allotment tenants across Bournemouth.

No two days are the same. One day you could be supporting a committee meeting, processing invoices, preparing reports or updating Council records. The next, you could be carrying out an allotment site inspection, responding to resident enquiries or helping to organise a civic event.

About the role

You will provide administrative and operational support across a wide range of Council activities, including:

  • Supporting the Town Clerk & Responsible Financial Officer with the day-to-day administration of the Council.
  • Processing invoices, purchase orders and financial records.
  • Assisting with budget monitoring, reconciliations and audit preparation.
  • Managing allotment records, waiting lists and tenancy documentation.
  • Responding to public enquiries and stakeholder correspondence.
  • Preparing agendas, reports and supporting papers for Council and committee meetings.
  • Drafting minutes and maintaining action logs.
  • Supporting civic and ceremonial events.
  • Maintaining accurate records, databases and filing systems.
  • Updating Council information and supporting digital communications.
  • Supporting Council projects, consultations and community initiatives.
About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Communicates confidently and professionally with a wide range of people.
  • Enjoys working with the public and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Can manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • Has experience of financial administration or similar record-keeping responsibilities.
  • Has strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Pays close attention to detail and maintains confidentiality.
  • Is able to build positive relationships with councillors, residents and stakeholders.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to a vehicle for business use.

Experience in local government, committee administration, financial administration, allotments management or community engagement would be advantageous, but we welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and a commitment to public service.

What we offer
  • Hybrid working arrangements.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement.
  • Nationally negotiated pay awards.
    Flexible and supportive working environment.
  • Opportunity to contribute directly to the development of Bournemouth Town Council and the local community.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
